Hope Starts Here
Whether you’re curious about faith, new to church, or looking for a fresh start in your relationship with God, you’re in the right place. At Five Lakes Church, we believe the most important questions you can ever ask are: Who is Jesus? And why does He matter to me?
Life is full of questions about purpose, identity, and what really matters. From the earliest days of recorded history, humanity has been striving to improve. We've been building civilizations, advancing science, inventing technology, and searching for wisdom.
In many ways, we’ve succeeded. We live longer than our ancestors, our lives are easier and more efficient, and modern breakthroughs have reshaped the world.
But with every step forward in progress, something deeper seems to break. The further we move away from God, the worse the world and our relationships with each other become.
For all our advancements, the human heart remains restless. Anxiety is at an all-time high. Trauma shapes entire generations. We are more connected by technology, yet lonelier than ever.
If science and technology, the very things we often use to distance ourselves from God, could solve the ache inside, we would finally be at peace. But the truth is, they can’t.
We chase after things we hope will satisfy: success, relationships, comfort. Yet no matter how much we achieve or collect, something still feels missing. Deep down, you know life should have more meaning than just getting through the week.
You’re not alone. We’ve all been there.
The Bible tells us why: we were created for a relationship with God. But sin, our tendency to go our own way, separates us from Him.
That’s why every advancement feels incomplete and every pursuit leaves us longing. True peace and purpose aren’t found in progress, but in the One who made us.
You are not alone. Your reality is also why Jesus makes sense.
Jesus came to earth and walked in our shoes:
“For we do not have a High Priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.”
(Hebrews 4:15, ESV)
No other religion offers a God who would step down into humanity, take on flesh, and suffer as we suffer. That’s because Jesus is the only one who has.
Jesus is not a myth or legend. He is a verified historical figure. Ancient historians such as Josephus and Tacitus, who were not Christians, recorded His existence and influence. One may debate whether He is the Son of God, but history itself confirms that He walked the earth, taught, performed miracles, was crucified under Pontius Pilate, and sparked a movement that changed the world.
And why did He come? For a single purpose: to redeem those who were lost.
Redemption means buying back what has been taken or enslaved. In biblical terms, it’s the picture of someone paying the price to set another person free. Humanity was held captive by sin and death, powerless to escape. But Jesus paid the price with His own life, breaking the chains that bound us and restoring us to God.
Jesus understands exactly what you’re going through, and He came to make a way back to God. Here’s the good news: God loves you more than you can imagine.
Jesus, God’s Son, lived the perfect life we couldn’t, then died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins. Three days later, He rose from the dead, proving He has power over sin and death.
When you put your trust in Jesus, your past no longer defines you. The weight of guilt and shame is lifted, because He has already paid the price for your sins. You no longer have to live trapped by regret. He offers a fresh start and a new identity rooted in His love.
With Jesus, you receive peace that lasts, even when life is uncertain. His joy isn’t tied to circumstances, so you can face hardships with a steady heart and a hopeful spirit. He gives purpose that goes beyond yourself, calling you into a life that impacts others and carries eternal significance.
Living with Jesus means walking in freedom—freedom from fear, freedom from condemnation, freedom from having to prove yourself. You are fully known, fully loved, and never alone, because God Himself promises to be with you.
And here’s the amazing part: even if someone were to imagine dying and discovering there was no afterlife, a life lived following Jesus would still be the best life possible. You would have lived with more hope when the world feels hopeless, more faith when others are paralyzed by doubt, more joy that cannot be stolen by circumstances, and more happiness that comes from knowing your life is grounded in love, service, and meaning.
The Bible says that to follow Jesus, we:
Admit we’ve sinned and can’t fix it on our own.
Sin is more than just “mistakes.” It is our tendency to reject God’s way and go our own way, falling short of His perfect standard.
Believe that Jesus died for our sins and rose again, taking the penalty we deserved and offering us forgiveness and new life.
Choose to follow Him as Lord and Savior, turning from our old way of living and embracing a new life in Him.
This turning is called repentance—a change of heart and direction that moves us toward God.
You can talk to God right now, wherever you are.
Here’s an example of what you might say:
Jesus, I admit that I’ve gone my own way and sinned against You. I believe You died for me and rose again. I repent—I turn from my sin—and I choose to follow You. Forgive me, make me new, and lead my life from this day forward. Today, I confess that You are God. I recognize and receive You as my Savior. From this day forward I am Your child and You are my God. Amen.
